Lifetime deal calculator

A lifetime deal only pays off if you use the product long enough and the product survives long enough. Enter the numbers to see both.

Rough guide to risk: 5–10% for established products with years of releases, 20–30% for young products, 40%+ for launch-week products that depend on costly AI or messaging services.

Risk-adjusted net saving--

How the calculation works

The break-even month is simply the lifetime price divided by the monthly price. The risk-adjusted figures assume that each year there is a chance, which you choose, that the product shuts down or that your lifetime plan is changed. The expected months of use add up the months in each year, weighted by the chance the product is still running that year. Multiply by the monthly price and you have the subscription cost the deal is really expected to save you.

For example, a $149 deal on a tool that costs $15 per month breaks even after about 10 months. Over three years with a 20% yearly risk, the expected months of use are about 29, worth roughly $439 of subscription, a risk-adjusted saving of about $290.

Before you buy

  • Check the plan limits (seats, projects, usage credits) against your real needs.
  • Put the refund deadline in your calendar and test properly before it passes.
  • Make sure you can export your data.
